Leukerbad is tradition

In 1229 Leukerbad is first mentioned under the name "Boez". With the freight and passenger traffic in the Middle Ages, the trade route over today's Gemmi, which connects the cantons of Bern and Valais, becomes increasingly popular. It can be assumed that the term "Gemmi" was derived from the French word "chemin", which means "way". To this day, numerous personalities such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Guy de Maupassant, Mark Twain or Pablo Picasso have visited the alpine spa village.

On the Alps around Leukerbad alpine farming is still practiced from about the end of June to mid-September. Alpine lifts, Alpfeste and show cheeses are some of the traditions that are carried out to the present day. The cozy village in the Valais Sonnenstube with the pure, tingling mountain air is a place for family, sports and wellness holidays, in short: for all and every season.

And this is Leukerbad nowadays!
